The Republic of Turkiyë & Syria

The Fight to Save Lives Rages On

This month, the events that devastated Turkey (or the Republic of Turkiyë) and Syria take precedence over other news for obvious reasons. But instead of adding gloom to what’s already one of the darkest catastrophes of our time, we’ll remind you that real superheroes are working 24/7 to save lives.

(Updated as of 02/23/23) On February 20th, Medecins Sans Frontiers (also known as Doctors Without Borders) announced the arrival of a 14-truck MSF convoy in Northern Syria after yet another earthquake struck both aforementioned nations two weeks after the first one wreaked historic amounts of havoc.

As reported on MSF’s site, the organization has since “supported 38 hospitals and health facilities in Idlib, Azaz, Afrin, Mare’, Bab al-Hawa, and other towns in northwestern Syria with donations of emergency kits, trauma kits, medical supplies and laboratory equipment, medicines, laboratory and medical consumables, and blankets.”

In reality, there are a few ways we can help.

Next month, we’ll be sending out an email announcing our pledge to help via the donation of proceeds to the World Food Programme, one of our favourite charities. Just a heads up.
